What does your front door say about you?!

When you come across a house in a street that has a particularly brightly coloured or quirky front door, if you’re anything like us then you’ll immediately begin to wonder about the people living behind that front door.

What are they like? Are they creative? Funny? Noisy? Does their door colour match their personality?!

Although we’re not really supposed to, as a species we are pretty prone to judging a book by its cover, so it’s no wonder we have this gut reaction when spotting anything a little out of the ordinary on the exterior of someone’s house.

Applied Colour Psychologist Karen Haller says 'The front door is traditionally the first impression the outside world gets, and gives an insight into your life. Taking pride in the exterior of your house not only improves the aesthetic of your home but can also add to the perceived value. A small change can make a big difference.'

It’s evident that the colour of your front door says more about you than you think – so how do you choose one that perfectly reflects your personality?

Red

Throughout history, red has been known as the colour of danger, love, desire and strength; it is a colour of many strong emotions. Hence people with red front doors tend to be energetic and passionate, giving 100 percent in everything they do. They are confident, outgoing people who will always say how they feel and don’t take kindly to being walked all over. Saying that, they are deeply loving, giving, caring and affectionate – so if you see a house with a red front door, there’s likely to be a friendly bunch living behind it.

Navy blue as a colour is associated with intelligence and maturity; if you have a navy blue front door you tend to be a level headed, clever person with a sensible job such as a teacher, professor or engineer. Navy blue is also a calming colour, so people choosing a front door of this colour will tend to resonate positive energy and be cool and collected – you won’t get any noisy neighbours living behind a door of this colour!

Yellow

Yellow is the happiest colour; associated with spring, daffodils and sunshine, picking yellow as a front door is a no brainer if you're a sunny, positive person. Yellow is also thought to promote wisdom, humour and mental clarity – all great qualities to have in a home, don’t you think?!

Green

Green has always been the colour of nature, symbolising growth, harmony and freshness. If you have a green front door you’re probably an environmentally aware, caring person – green is also associated with wealth and money. It is also the colour of fertility, so if you’re looking to start a family, giving your front door a lick of green paint might just be worth doing!

Purple

Believe it or not, purple is actually a pretty popular colour to paint a front door; purple symbolises energy and opportunity, hence people paint their doors hoping it will bring good energy and opportunities into their homes and their lives.

White

If you have a white front door, you tend to be a cool, calm and collected person with a friendly nature; people with white front doors never fly off the handle or get unreasonable or angry. They are good at handling tentative situations and tend to be very wise; throughout history, white has come to represent purity, serenity, and virtue.
